You can make many kinds of patterns using shape, color, line, and any combination of these.  Using your choice of crayons, markers, paints, colored pencils, or any other art supply you’d like to use (like glitter, stickers, cut and glue construction paper, etc.) decorate each egg after you print the egg template!

Lesson for 4/8, Spring Chicks

For art class today you are going to draw a spring chick! Below you can see four examples of this project and it also gives you something to look at so you know how to draw your chick 🙂

1.) Start with a plain piece of white paper and using a pencil, draw a nice big hill in the middle of the paper.

2.) Close the hill by drawing a straight line to connect each side.

3.) Give your chick two legs and 3 little straight line toes.

4.) For the eyes, make two dots or draw two circles that you color in black.

5.) Make the wings by drawing a curved line, like a half a circle, on each side of the body.

6.) Make a pointy end up triangle for the beak in the middle of the body and then draw another triangle pointing down so it looks like your spring chick is singing with his or her mouth wide open!

7.) Lastly, add some extra details like a small heart on one side for the tail feathers and a V at the top to look like more feathers sticking up on the head. Use a black pen or marker to trace over all of your pencil lines and then use watercolor paints (if you have them), or crayon, markers, or colored pencils to color in the background and your spring chick!

Lesson for 4/1, Llama:

This instruction sheet shows you how to draw a llama.  It is now officially spring time, and this is a fun way to create spring inspired art work using the guided drawing techniques we have been practicing in art class.  As you can see, the llama you make can have lots of things added to make it unique (another concept we have been talking about – making your art unique!). Please use your imagination to add the details to your llama!

Lesson for 4/17, Bugs in a Jar

Hello Kindergarten!

For art this week you are going to be drawing some bugs in a jar 🙂 When I was a little girl I loved going outside and finding insects and other creepy crawlies to put in a glass jar to look at, then I would let everything go free at the end of the day!

Click here to find the template to print of a glass jar. Once you have the printed template you can start drawing any kinds of bugs you want inside of your jar. What would your bug or creepy crawly collection have in it?

Maybe some butterflies, bees, lightening bugs (they were my favorite to catch at sunset :), spiders, ants, beetles, or lady bugs! Soon enough we’ll be seeing all kinds of bugs outside as the weather gets warmer so use your imagination to fill up your jar! Please use colored pencils, paints, crayons, or markers to make your bug collections, and I can’t wait to see what you all come up with! (Please remember to email me a picture of your artwork when it is finished 🙂 )

Lesson for Mrs. Fregoe’s class on 3/31 and Mrs. Cumming’s class on 4/1, Cupcakes:

In art class at school we started to talk about different American artists.  One we looked at was an artist named Wayne Thiebaud. He was an American artist who did paintings of desserts and food.  The cupcake sheet gives you examples on how to draw a cupcake. You can pick one, or try out each. And it is definitely ok and encouraged that you add your own decorations to your cupcake that you draw!

Lesson for Mrs. Fregoe’s class on 4/16, and Mrs. Cumming’s class on 4/17, Feathers for Lunch

Hello 1st grade!

(Mrs. Cumming’s class missed art last week because of our break, so her class can also find the Bunny Guided Drawing lesson Mrs. Fregoe’s class did listed above).

For art this week you are going to be doing a drawing based on the book “Feathers for Lunch” by Lois Ehlert. You can click here to watch a video of the story being read, and then go to this page to print or view the instructions on how to draw a bird sitting on a cat’s head 🙂

For your drawing, please use plain white paper and follow the how to draw instructions to make your drawing nice and big on your piece of paper. Outline everything you draw using a black marker or pen, and then you can use paint, colored pencils, markers, or crayons to color everything in! Make sure to email me a picture of your finished artwork!

Lesson for Mrs. Fregoe’s class on 4/24, and Mrs. Cumming’s class on 4/27, Texture Wild Thing

Hello 1st grade!

For art this week you are going to create a drawing that has texture! You can click here to listen to the story, Where the Wild Things Are, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. While you listen to the story, pay extra attention to all of the different textures in the pictures you see.

Texture is what the surface of something looks like or what it feels like. There are many ways to make texture in art. For art today you are going to be drawing texture – using lines and shapes. Click here for the template of a wild thing to print. On the template you can add some of the textures you see in the boxes, or you can make up your own textures using line to cover the wild thing’s body. Click here to see some more examples of texture you can make in your drawings. Don’t forget to draw him or her a face and other details like horns if you’d like 🙂

Use colored pencils, crayons, markers, or paint to make your own texture wild thing!

You always have until the next art class to do your art assignments, so I hope you will have plenty of time to make this project!
